Terms of Service

The deal, minus the jargon

These are the real, binding terms for using Examzi. We've written them in plain English because you should be able to understand what you're agreeing to. Each section starts with a one-line summary, but the full text underneath is what counts.

Updated 10 October 2026. About 12 minutes to read.

1

Saying yes to these terms

Acceptance

In short: By using Examzi, you agree to these terms. If your child uses it, you're agreeing on their behalf.

These terms are an agreement between you and Examzi ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Examzi app or app.examzi.com, you accept them, along with our Privacy Policy.

If you're under 18, a parent or guardian needs to agree to these terms for you. Parents who set up or pay for a child's account accept these terms for themselves and their child, and are responsible for how the account is used.

2

Your permission to use the app

Licence to use the app

In short: You're welcome to use Examzi for your own learning. You can't copy it, resell it or pass it on.

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Examzi on devices you own or control, for your own (or your child's) non-commercial study. You may not copy, sell, rent, sublicense or modify the app, or try to get at its source code, except where the law gives you a right to. If you got the app from the App Store, Apple's Usage Rules apply too. The licence ends if your account is closed.

3

Who can use Examzi

Eligibility

In short: Parents must be 18+. Students 13+ can join themselves; younger children need a parent or school to set them up.

  • Parent and teacher accounts are for adults aged 18 or over.
  • Students aged 13 or over can create their own account.
  • Children under 13 can only use Examzi through an account set up by their parent or their school.
  • School accounts are managed by the school, which decides who gets access.
  • You must give accurate details and keep your login to yourself. One person per account, please.

4

Subscriptions, prices and paying

Subscriptions, pricing, and billing

In short: Payments go through the App Store. Plans renew automatically until you cancel, and you can cancel any time.

  • Some features are free. Others need an Examzi Pro subscription. The price is shown in the app before you buy.
  • Subscriptions are bought and billed through Apple's App Store. Apple takes the payment, so we never see your card details.
  • Where a free trial is offered, it turns into a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time in your App Store settings, at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
  • Extra tutor time (top-ups) is a one-off purchase. Exam Boost is an add-on subscription that adds tutor time each month and renews like any other.
  • If prices change, we'll tell you first, and the new price only applies from your next renewal.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under its refund policy. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Schools pay for licences under a separate agreement with us.

Nothing here affects your legal rights as a consumer.

5

Your work and your lessons

Your content and recordings

In short: Your notes, answers and photos stay yours. We look after them so Examzi can teach you, and we don't keep lesson audio.

You own what you create on Examzi: answers, notes, flashcards, photos of your work and board snaps. You give us permission to store, process and display it, and to share it with the services that help us run Examzi (like OpenAI for marking), only so we can provide and improve the service for you. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except where we must keep something by law.

Lessons: we don't record or keep the audio from voice lessons. We keep a written copy of what was said and what went on the whiteboard so your tutor can pick up where you left off. Only the student can read the full written copy. Parents see a summary.

Please only upload things you're allowed to share, and nothing illegal, harmful or someone else's private information.

6

Other people and the microphone

Recording other people

In short: Lessons are for the student. Please don't use Examzi to record or photograph other people without their OK.

  • Voice lessons use the microphone. Try to have them somewhere quiet, as other voices nearby might be picked up and processed live (though never saved as audio by us).
  • Don't use Examzi to record teachers, classmates or anyone else, or to capture school lessons.
  • When photographing work, only include your own work, and no one's face or personal details.
  • If you include someone else's information, you're responsible for having their permission.

7

Services we work with

Third-party services

In short: Some parts of Examzi run on other companies' services, like Apple and OpenAI. Their terms apply to their bits.

Examzi relies on third-party services, including Apple (App Store and Sign in with Apple), Google (sign-in), OpenAI (the AI tutor and marking) and others listed in our Privacy Policy. When you use their features, such as paying through Apple, their own terms also apply. We choose them carefully, but we're not responsible for services we don't control, or for websites we link to.

8

Playing fair

Acceptable use

In short: Be honest, be kind and use Examzi to learn. No hacking, cheating or trying to trick the AI.

You agree not to:

  • use Examzi for anything illegal, harmful or abusive;
  • hack, overload, reverse-engineer or disrupt the service, or get around its limits;
  • try to make the AI produce harmful, hateful or inappropriate content;
  • choose offensive usernames, or impersonate someone else;
  • scrape or copy content with bots or automated tools;
  • hand in AI-written work as your own where your school or exam board doesn't allow it, including coursework and non-exam assessment;
  • share your account or sell access to it.

If you do, we may remove content or suspend the account (see "When accounts close").

9

What belongs to us

Our intellectual property

In short: The app, the design, the tutor and the questions are ours. Use them to learn, not to copy.

Examzi, including its software, design, logos, tutor, lessons and generated questions, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by law. You can use it for personal study. You can't copy, republish or sell it. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely to improve Examzi, without owing you anything.

10

The honest small print

Disclaimers

In short: Examzi is a brilliant study aid, but AI can make mistakes and we can't promise grades.

  • Examzi uses AI, which can sometimes be wrong. It's a study aid to use alongside teachers, textbooks and official exam board materials, not a replacement for them.
  • We can't guarantee any particular grade or exam result.
  • Ace is a tutor, not a counsellor or a medical or emergency service. If a child is in danger, call 999. If your child needs someone to talk to, Childline is free on 0800 1111.
  • We work hard to keep Examzi running, but can't promise it will always be available or error-free.

Apart from what these terms say, and to the extent the law allows, Examzi is provided "as is". If you're a consumer, you still have all your legal rights, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Some US states don't allow certain warranties to be excluded, so some of this may not apply to you.

11

Limits on what we owe

Limitation of liability

In short: If something goes wrong, our liability is limited, but never for things the law says we can't limit.

We're not liable for losses that weren't reasonably foreseeable, for business losses, or for exam results. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or £100.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law.

12

If you break the rules

Indemnification

In short: If someone makes a claim against us because you broke these terms or the law, you cover our reasonable costs.

To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover our reasonable costs (including legal fees) if someone brings a claim against us because you broke these terms, broke the law, or uploaded content you didn't have the right to share. This doesn't take away any rights you have as a consumer.

13

When accounts close

Termination

In short: Delete your account any time. Remember to cancel the subscription in the App Store too, as deleting doesn't stop it.

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. This deletes the account and its learning data, as explained in our Privacy Policy.

Important: deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store subscription. Cancel it in your App Store settings so you aren't charged again.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk. Where it's reasonable, we'll warn you first and explain why. If we ever close Examzi for good, we'll give you notice and time to download your data.

14

Apple App Store terms

App Store terms

In short: If you got Examzi from the App Store, Apple has a few rules we're required to tell you about.

  • This agreement is between you and Examzi, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content.
  • Your licence is to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as allowed by the App Store Usage Rules.
  • Apple has no duty to provide maintenance or support for the app.
  • If the app fails to meet any warranty that applies, you can tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app, as far as the law allows.
  • We, not Apple, handle any claims about the app, including product liability, failure to meet legal requirements, consumer protection claims and claims that it infringes someone's intellectual property.
  • You confirm you're not in a country under a US government embargo, and not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • You must also follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app (for example, your mobile network's).
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.

15

Which laws apply

Governing law

In short: English law applies. You can still use the laws and courts where you live if they give you more protection.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts. If you live elsewhere, you keep any protections your local consumer law gives you that can't be overridden. US residents should also read the next two sections.

16

Sorting out disagreements

Dispute resolution and arbitration

In short: Talk to us first, as most things get fixed by email. US residents agree to individual arbitration unless they opt out.

If something's wrong, please email support@examzi.com first and give us 30 days to try to fix it. Most problems get sorted that way.

UK and other non-US residents: if we can't agree, either of us can go to the courts set out in "Which laws apply".

US residents: any dispute that we can't resolve informally will be settled by binding arbitration on an individual basis, run by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. Either of us can instead bring an eligible claim in small claims court. Claims can only be brought individually, not as part of a class or representative action. You can opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing support@examzi.com within 30 days of first accepting these terms.

17

Notes for US states

State-specific notices

In short: A few US states give extra rights. Here they are.

  • California: under California Civil Code §1789.3, you can contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or on (800) 952-5210. Subscriptions can be cancelled online at any time in your App Store settings.
  • New Jersey and other states: some limitations and exclusions in these terms may not apply where state law doesn't permit them, and they apply only as far as that law allows.
  • Children under 13 (COPPA): accounts for children under 13 in the US must be set up by a parent, who consents to how we handle their child's data as described in our Privacy Policy.

18

When these terms change

Changes to these terms

In short: If we change anything important, we'll tell you before it applies.

We may update these terms as Examzi grows or the law changes. We'll change the date at the top, and for important changes we'll tell you by email or in the app before they take effect. If you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account. Carrying on using Examzi after a change means you accept it.
